The Emotional Journey that is Semi Permanent Make Up
On this very wintry and dark morning, a client who came for Semi Permanent Make Up seriously illuminated and brightened up my day.
Jane is a young girl who has developed alopecia in her mid-30. Alopecia is a chronic dermatological disorder in which people lose some or all of the hair on their head and sometimes on their body as well.
It also means that you lose your eyebrows, which is why Jane came to me.
Her resilience in the face of adversity is amazing and rather than let it get her down, she decided to pick up the phone and call me. She did not know that she could have a very natural look done anywhere, let alone Waterford and was very wary of approaching places that appeared high glam.
When we spoke she told me that the aim was to balance the look with it being natural but also full browed. For Jane, her routine has become the daily ritual of drawing them on each morning before she leaves the house.
She openly admits that she is not the most artistic and with a less than steady hand she has been doing the best that she can with what she has.
When she came to me for an initial consultation I noticed that she pulled her wig way down over her eyebrows and had a stooped posture. I guess it really does go to show that such a simple things as eyebrow shaping can have a huge impact on your overall posture and confidence.
On the day, she was nervous and excited all in one. Would she really not have to spend time drawing on brows anymore? Would she really be able to look people straight in the eye when talking to them?
So I used the Semi Permanent Make Up technique for the most natural effect; using a hair stroke technique with hand tools.
Jane had booked a half day off work, but was delighted when the procedure only took 2 hours; 45 minutes of which were made up of talking about her face structure and what she liked and didn’t like and most importantly the colour of her Semi Permanent Make-Up.
So, how did they turn out? When she first looked in the mirror she was silent.
And then more silence and then came the tears. The realisation of the old Jane; the one with brows and the reappearance of her facial features after so long. But I noticed something truly transformational.
As she left she adjusted her wig further towards her hairline and her posture instantly improved. She was now ready to face the world.
