Your eyebrow shape can make or break your whole look, it takes time to perfect that arch, so that it complements your face. Here are a few great tips!
The shape and colour of your eyebrows can completely transform the way you look and that’s why so many ladies are obsessing over their brows and purchasing tons of products, from gels and pencils to tattoo-like stamps and mini trimmers.
Is it really the most important feature of your face? Beauty experts say that the right shape can make you look older or younger, depending on the goal you want to achieve. They also say that brows can make your face seem more symmetrical even if it isn’t, and that the distance between them can instantly alter your looks.
Should they be big or small? It isn’t a one-size-fits-all, which means that you need to make sure you hit the right proportions. And if you are not happy with your natural brows, you can try microblading or eyebrow embroidery and reshape them exactly the way you want!
But how to determine which shape, style and colour truly suits you and makes you look more adorable? Most of us have learned it through trial and error. But there are smarter ways to figure it out!
The Seven Golden Rules to Eyebrow Shaping
The shape and style are entirely up to you, so there are no strict rules you need to follow. However, if you want to play it safe and stick to the norms prescribed by professional stylists, follow these golden rules and it will be hard to make a mistake!
- The size of your eyebrows should match the size of your face (this means that you should never try to make them too big or too small).
- Your eyebrows should be in line with the inner corners of your eyes (use a pencil and hold it vertically to determine where your brows should begin).
- The arch shouldn’t be positioned centrally, but approximately two-thirds of the way out.
- Your brows should be thicker on the inner end towards the arch and thinner towards the outer points.
- The end tip shouldn’t be positioned lower than the beginning of the brow (it can be slightly higher).
- Always brush the hairs upwards.
- Trim if you need to, but don’ make your brows too short.
Match Your Eyebrows with the Shape of Your Face
Is your face round, oval, square, too short or too long? Whatever the shape, you can elevate your look with the right style of brows. Here is how to make the perfect match:
If your face is long… the quick fix is to create straight horizontal eyebrows. Just keep them nice and flat with a small downward curve or even no curve at all. This eyebrow style will make your face appear shorter and rounder!
If you have a round face… high arches are just ideal! You need to create the illusion that your face is slightly longer than it really is and a pointy, elevated arch will do the trick.
If your face is shaped like a perfect oval… then you can style your brows in many different ways and they will look great on you! It is the best face shape for make-up and hair in general, which means you can experiment with various styles. The ultimate eyebrow shape? The trendy soft angled look!
If your face is square-shaped… then you need to work on your brows a little bit harder. Your goal is to make them seem softer to smoothen your overall look. Avoid big boxy brows at all costs! The shape should be slim and feminine with a soft arch. Medium thickness and rounder shapes will look better on you.
If you have a face shaped like a diamond… go for a more dramatic curve. You can soften the look with thin, elegant and feminine brows, so opt for a soft, rounder curve.
If you have close-set eyes… create a wider arch and try elongating your brows with a pencil on the outer tips.
If you have wide-set eyes… your brows should start closer to the centre. This will visually draw your eyes closer together.
Not happy with your natural brow shape? You can use styling tools and make-up products or try eyebrow embroidery or microblading which can help you achieve the look you desire!
Use the Right Eyebrow Styling Tools
With so many eyebrow styling tools available on the market and so many tutorials available online, it is not so difficult to try a few things at home, even though a professional will be more meticulous and do the job just right. If you are a DIY type of person, learn all about the tools and products that will make the whole process easier. Threading is a great technique if you want to remove multiple hairs around your eyebrows, while tweezers are better for shaping your brows and going into finer details. Most professionals use both methods, depending on the style and shape of the brows they are working on.
In addition to these two tools, you will also need a couple of must-haves necessary to keep your brows top-notch. A product you won’t be able to live without once you have tried it is, of course, eyebrow gel. Most brows tend to go wild and head in different directions, so this product will always keep them tamed. Another must-have is a brow pencil in your perfect shade, which you can use on the go. You can also use eyebrow powders and mascara-like products for a more defined look or simply apply a tattoo brow gel tint if you want to create a look that lasts for a couple of days.
Consider Reshaping your Brows
In order to style our eyebrows, we are forced to work with what we have. If you are not happy with your natural brows (because they are over-plucked, too short or too small), don’t worry, because there is a way to revamp them! Eyebrow embroidery is a new global trend everyone is loving right now, because it is so easy to reshape your brows and make a huge difference by using precision, measurement, angles, arcs and a semi-permanent procedure that creates long-lasting effects. Contour by Sherise has over 15 years of experience and has specialised in eyebrows for the past 7 years. What is unique about this method? Combining different techniques such as microblading and the powder brow to create my own signature style which focuses on a more natural, feathered look.
